What I Did Last Night...
Each day the students will bring home a sheet that asks them what they did once they went home. This sheet is very important for the students to work on each night. It is also important that someone discusses the questions with them as the sheet is being filled out. This sheet helps students to recall events from their day and work on sequencing them together. When they work on it with you it helps them to process the day's events. Each morning the students discuss this sheet with me or one of the classroom paraprofessionals. This helps students to recall events from the day or days before and work on their communication skills.
Notes and Lunch
On the back of this sheet you will find a section labeled "Notes." Besides email, and phone, this is a great place to communicate with me. Below that is where parents can indicated what their child will be having for lunch. Lunch orders are taking at school and done for the following day. For example on Monday students order lunch for Tuesday. It is important to fill this section out even if your student is getting cold lunch, so I know to order your student a hot lunch for the following day. The following link provides more information on adding money to your students debit card, lunch menus, and more. http://www.chippewavalleyschools.org/lunch.asp
Classroom Rules
Our classroom has four rules that the students are expected to follow. These rules help to create a positive learning environment for everyone.
1. Nice Hands
2. Listen
3. Do your work ( the best you can)
4. Follow directions.

Classroom Behavior Plan
We will be introducing a new behavior plan. We will no longer be using the traffic light with clipping up and down. We will now be doing more of a token economy system. Students will have a spot for green chips on their desk. After a task if they are following the classroom rules, they will earn a green chip. Once four green chips have been earned, they can pick a reward from our reward choice board. The chips on their desk are then cleared off and they start over to work for another four green chips and reward. With each reward, the students will also be given a Miami dollar that will be used for shopping at the school store every other week.
At the end of the day, students will fill out a sheet that is very similar to the previous one. They will circle what they did in school that day. Instead of coloring in a traffic light, the student will circle how many rewards they earned that day. There is a possibility of four rewards during the day. The back of the sheet will look very different. It will now have our classroom rules, a spot for a smiley face, and a spot for comments. Students will check out with Mrs. Hemler, Mrs. Carrie, or Mrs. Robin at the end of the day. They will earn a smiley face stamp for classroom rules that were followed all day. If a student didn’t follow one of the rules, the smiley section will be left blank and there will be a comment from me to inform you why they didn’t earn that smiley face.
My hopes is this behavior system will focus more on the positive and increase motivation for students in the classroom. We will try It out for a bit, and then revisit to access its effectiveness. I am open to your thoughts, comments, and questions you may have. Thank you!
